Downhill, Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing

Down-hill and/or cross-country skiing is available at nearby Stratton Mountain (10 minutes), Bromley Mountain (20 minutes), Mount Snow (30 minutes), Magic Mountain (20 minutes) and Okemo (30 minutes). Excellent groomed trails for Nordic (cross-country) skiing can be found at Grafton Ponds (25 minutes), Viking Nordic Center (15 minutes) and Wild Wings (15 minutes). You can also strap on a pair of cross-country skis and hit the nearby Catamount Trail and explore places such as Grout Pond (25 minutes). There are also numerous "ungroomed" snowshoeing and cross-country ski trails in the area including our own 40 acre trail right in the backyard! We are always exploring new trails and are happy to assist you in choosing a trail that is suitable to your skill level. You are welcome to use our selection of cross-country skis and snowshoes for free if the gear fits you. Alternatively, you can rent the ski or snowshoe equipment at a reasonable rate at the various Nordic centers, or at Equipe Sports (2 minutes), an excellent outdoor sports center that is only 1 minute away.

Enjoy guided horseback riding in the Green Mountains during the warmer months at nearby Horses for Hire. Year round, children will love to visit Taylor Farm and their numerous farm animals. Taylor farm is a family operated dairy farm minutes away. During the winter months, memorable sleigh rides are available from our neighbors at Taylor Farm, Horses for Hire and Adams Farm. Outdoor skating is available at Grafton Ponds and indoor skating can be found at Riley Rink (Manchester). Magic Mountain and Grafton Ponds offer awesome tubing parks.
Hiking & Mountain Biking

Hiking and mountain biking on the regions many trails. Explore the beautiful West River Trail by foot or mountain bike. Hike or Bike to and picnic by three nearby gorgeous waterfalls or explore miles of trails in Jamaica State Park and Ball Mountain State Park (5 minutes), or be adventurous and hike a bit of the Long/Appalachian Trail (15 minutes) and explore the Green Mountain National Forest. In addition, there are numerous gravel roads and trails in the area that are perfect to explore on a bike.
Bring your field books and binoculars! The Stone Boat Farm's location on the edge of a wetland and its close proximity to the Ball Mountain Dam on the West River provides an excellent opportunity to observe numerous birds and other wildlife (species lists). Herons, kingfishers, turkeys, woodpeckers, numerous perching birds, and the great horned owl are some of the resident bird species. Our mammal neighbors include the black bear, bobcat, coyote, moose, deer, mink, porcupine, raccoon, beaver, and fisher amongst others.
Rafting West River, Jamaica State Park
The Ball Mountain Dam on the West River is famous for its bi-annual (April, September) releases. Class II, III and IV whitewater is available for rafting, canoeing and kayaking. Guided trips are available. Excellent canoeing, kayaking and swimming is available on the numerous lakes, ponds, and rivers and waterfalls in the area.
Excellent central location for fishing in the region’s many lakes, rivers and streams. The world famous Batten Kill River is located nearby in Manchester, Vermont (20 minutes). Lake fishing is available at Ball Mountain Reservoir (5 minutes), Townshend Dam State Park (15 minutes) and Lowell Lake (10 minutes). Excellent pond fishing (bass, pickerel) at nearby Gale Meadows Pond (10 minutes). Geoff can also point you in the right direction for wonderful brook trout fishing in several nearby gorgeous and remote areas.

|Shopping & Sightseeing
Take a short drive and visit the famous Vermont Country Store in Weston (25 minutes) or the various outlet shops in Manchester (20 minutes). The village of Grafton (20 minutes) is a lovingly restored quintessential Vermont village with museums, churches, an old tavern and cheese factory. The Taylor Farm is another local cheese producer where you can observe the cheese making process and enjoy a self-guided tour. Our neighbors at Coleman Hills Farm have for generations produced some of the finest maple syrup in Vermont. The Coleman family welcomes visits to their farm and is happy to show you the process of making maple syrup during sugaring season. Visit the Glass Shop in Jamaica Village. The towns of Wardsboro and Wilmington have regional shopping along with some great food options.
There are many dining options in the areas of Jamaica, Townsend, Rawsonville/Bondville, Stratton Mountain Village, Londonderry, Weston and Manchester.
